Trattoria Il Segreto

quoteWhat a gem of a restaurant. Awesome food and service from the wait staff and owner. Enjoyed melting fresh calamari with balsalmic vinegar made on the premises, and the freshly made Veganese pasta (gluten free, dairy free, egg free) in a delightful chocolate, mushroom, truffle oil combination mixed with a touch of garlic, parmesan and rosemary. For lovers of high quality ingredients and northern Italian food!

quoteA truly lovely restaurant. The service was great, as was the atmosphere. The menu was amazing, and even better, there was a huge range of gluten free dishes! The calamari steaks were divine, and all the mains we ate were just beautiful. And - crucially - dessert was just wonderful! I highly recommend this restaurant for a brilliant night out.

quoteAfter giving the chef the chalenge of preparing us a dish without garlic, Vinicio, produced an amazing meal of home made pasta and prawns with fresh tomatoes and eggplant. Delicious to the last morsel because it was served in foil on a platter. We preceeded this main with the chefs suggestion of the calamari which melted in your mouth it was so tender and the flavour was similar to abalone. Desert saw Peter try the rockmellon gelato which was quite delicious and natural in flavour and I had the panacotta which was so smooth and tasty. Vinicio is a passionate artist of his craft, the secret bistro is a hidden gem. We'll definately be back.

quoteI've eaten some wonderful Italian meals in Italy and around the world but I must say that the meal my wife and I shared at Trattoria Il Segreto on Saturday night qualifies as the best ever. After starting with the calamari, I ordered the beetroot gnocchi and my wife the tried the pork risotto with cinnamon. The distinctive flavours were exciting, fragrant and playful. Quite a different take on the 'traditional' Italian menu and clearly is the work of a passionate and talented chef. His ingredients were all home made and thoroughly edible to the last morsel. We accompanied the food with an Italian Cianti, which was resonably priced, leaving enough in the budget for one last delight; a trio of home made gelato flavoured with saffron, beetroot, mint, chocolate and spinach. After that, we contempated how satisfied we were while sipping some home made lemoncello. Wow. The fact that the meal was all entirely Gluten Free made it all the more special.
